Amélie Regnault

Cindy told me that she is a second generation American. She wasn't born in the United States. She cames to America from Germany when she was 4. Her parents are both from Saigon, Vietnam, but her mom lived in Berlin for about 20 years before she finally came to the United States. Her dad came to the United States with his family and settled in San Jose, California. She speaks Vietnamese and English, depending on the moment. She thinks that after her generation, Vietnamese won't be a common language at home anymore. I think she is lucky to have been able to learn another language

She also told me that UC Irvine is primarily Asian,  about 50% of the student population is Asian. UC Irvine is quite culturally diverse. There are a lot of international students, most of them from Asia who come to study business or biology. In the school of Humanities, where she studies, there aren't many international students.

She’s not too familiar with France as a country, but she thinks all countries are multicultural in their own ways. She said Paris is very ethnically and culturally diverse, you can really see it on the metro. It's more diverse than in Irvine.
